Yesterday, Wednesday 11 April, Glenda and I visited 'The Cedars' the studio and cottage of artist Hans Heysen. While we had previously visited the Heysen Academy in the main street of Hahndorf this was our first visit to 'The Cedars'. The inaugural Adelaide Hills International Sculpture Symposium opened on 10 April on the Ridge at 'The Cedars'. There are also on display in the grounds of the estate works in 'The 2012 Heysen Sculpture Biennial B6'. 'The Cedars' is without doubt a National Treasure. The estate has been preserved as the home of South Australia's foremost landscape artist Sir Hans Heysen OBE 1877 - 1968. While it was not possible for me to photograph inside the studio and
residence I was able to photograph the sculpture in the grounds. We had a
very enjoyable day appreciating the art of Sir Hans Heysen and the sculptors at work at the Symposium and the sculptures exhibited for the Biennial.
Several of my photographs play with the notion of the aesthetics of 'the found' appearing in context as placed sculptural pieces.
